Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is an American TV journalist anchor and commentator for NBC News based in Washington D.C. Growing up within New York City, Mitchell obtained a bachelor's degree in English literature at The University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell started her career as a journalist for KYW Radio and TV, Philadelphia in 1967. 1996, she was hired by WDVM-TV Washington DC, a CBS-affiliated station (then WTOP). Two years later she became a general correspondent at NBC News in Washington. In 1981 began covering the White House and became chief Congress correspondent in 1988. In 1992, she was appointed the Chief White House Correspondent and in 1994, she was named chief foreign affairs reporter for NBC News. Mitchell was a panelist as well as anchor of the TV program Meet the Press. Mitchell was a panelist at the debates in 1988 with George Bush & Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married with Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded in 2005 the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in the John F. Kennedy School of Government. And in 2004, Radio-Television News Directors Association, (RTNDA), honored Mitchell for her contribution in defending First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell's first White House coverage was for NBC News, between 1981-1988. This period included the two Ronald Reagan terms in office. She covered many notable issues, such as the arm control, the budget tax and the Iran Contra scandal. Mitchell also attended various summits while in the company of the President Reagan with Mikhail Gorbachev.
